Last Winter Tested Us. Here's Why I'm More Excited Than Ever for This Ski Season. #Pray4Snow

Looking back at last season—and why every skier is hoping for a legendary comeback.

If you spent any time in Breckenridge last winter, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

It wasn't just a "slow start" to the season—it was one of the toughest winters I can remember. Snowfall came late, storms seemed to miss us, and there were plenty of days where all of us locals found ourselves constantly checking the forecast hoping for that next big storm.

As someone who owns and manages vacation rentals here in Breckenridge, I saw it firsthand. Guests were still making incredible memories, but everyone was asking the same question:

           "When is the snow coming?"

Thankfully, Breckenridge has one of the best snowmaking operations in Colorado, so the mountain stayed in great shape considering the circumstances. But let's be honest—nothing beats waking up to a foot of fresh powder and spending the day carving through untouched snow.

That's the Breckenridge we all love.

           Looking Ahead

The early long-range weather chatter has many meteorologists watching the potential development of a strong El Niño pattern this winter.

Historically, El Niño years can bring above-average snowfall to parts of Colorado, especially later in the season. Of course, no one can predict exactly what Mother Nature will do months in advance, but after last year, it's hard not to be optimistic.

If there's ever a year to hope for a comeback, this feels like it.

           Why We Love Winter Here

One of the things I love most about Breckenridge is that every winter tells a different story.

Some years it's endless powder days.

Some years it's bluebird skies and perfect groomers.

And sometimes Mother Nature reminds us who's really in charge.

No matter what happens, this town always finds a way to deliver an incredible mountain experience. The restaurants are buzzing, Main Street looks like something out of a Christmas movie, the après scene is unbeatable, and there's nothing quite like watching the snow fall over Peak 8 with a cup of coffee in your hand.

           Here's Hoping...

Whether you're planning your first trip to Breckenridge or you're one of our returning guests, we're hoping this winter reminds everyone why Colorado skiing is world famous.

We're already getting excited for ski season, watching every forecast, and crossing our fingers for those classic overnight powder dumps.

           Until then...

           Pray for snow.

Meet Ryan

Meet Ryan Leahy, your guide to family-friendly vacations. Learn about adaptive skiing & activities for all ages in Breckenridge.

         Meet Ryan!!!

When you book your Breckcation, you receive communication from Ryan, Tom, and Larry so I thought that it would be nice to introduce you to Ryan Leahy as he is the brains behind the operation.

Ryan is a married father of a son Jack and daughter Kinsley who are the light of his life. When Ryan isn't cursing his partners Tom and Larry at Breckenridge Property Management, he is a mortgage broker who enjoys training for triathlons (he completed Ironman Arizona in 2024), smoking and grilling meats, and relaxing poolside when the Colorado weather permits.

          Q. Ryan, you have been snowboarding for almost three decades and recently switched to skiing, why?

          A. I LOVE snowboarding but skiing makes it much easier to help my son on the mountain. Jack was born with cerebral palsy and does adaptive skiing with the use of a sit ski and a guide to get him down the mountain safely. He absolutely loves it and I want to be a part of that so although learning to ski again after 30 years of boarding has been more challenging than I thought, I'm going to do whatever it takes to get on the mountain on skis so I can help guide him down the mountain.

          Q. What about Kinsley, is she hitting the slopes yet?

          A. Well she is only two so we haven't gotten her out yet, but she is our little fireball and she is so stubborn and determined that we aren't worried about excelling at whatever she decides to do. If anything, I'm more worried about any future instructors who might tell her that she can't do something.

          Q. What's your favorite thing about Breckenridge and or Breckenridge Property Management?

          A. Breckenridge has always felt like my home away from home. It's a place where my family can slow down, spend real time together, and enjoy being outside no matter the season. From mountain mornings to quiet evenings, there's always something to do that works for everyone . Because of that, property management has come naturally to me. I really enjoy helping other families experience Breck the same way my family has for years. Knowing that I get to play a small part in creating those memories with their own Breckcation is what makes this so rewarding!
